Gus Atkinson increased the injury concerns plaguing England after leaving the field on the second morning of the fourth Ashes Test in the Ashes series.

The pace bowler felt a problem in his left leg immediately following a delivery that he bowled during the morning session.

The touring camp reported the 27-year-old reported "discomfort" and would spend time off the field to undergo evaluation "over the next few hours".

The series decider of the series at the SCG starts on Sunday, 4 January.

The visitors have been without strike bowlers Mark Wood with a knee problem and Jofra Archer because of a side injury on the current trip.

A replacement bowler was added to the party as injury reinforcement.

His form was underwhelming in the opening two Tests, managing only three wickets.

He was omitted of the third Test, then recalled for the Melbourne Test to fill the void.

Atkinson improved at the MCG, claiming a couple of wickets in Australia's first innings, and scoring 28 runs while batting as one of just three England players who passed ten runs.

Following a brief spell in Australia's second innings, he resumed on Saturday morning and had nightwatchman taken by the wicketkeeper.

Yet, at the end of the fifth over, he delivered a slower ball to the batsman and suddenly grabbed for his hamstring.
