The Red Devils Poised to Sign German Striker Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants

Manchester United are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific German striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from Bayern Munich.

A Marquee Acquisition for United

The forward, with half a year remaining on her deal, has been a prolific goalscorer for both club and country. She has netted over 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. Her arrival will be seen as a marquee signing for the Women’s Super League team.

Her exit from Bayern was expected after she was seen fighting back tears while applauding the German club’s supporters following a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

Reports in December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its leading forwards. Per multiple sources, the formalities for the transfer have now been completed.

Consistent Goalscoring to Strengthen United's Forward Line

The experienced striker's signing should represent a major uplift to the team's forward line. Schüller has been highly reliable with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.

  • Over seven straight seasons, including the last term, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She won the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Gathering Momentum at Carrington

Securing the German international coincides with a period when United seem to be gathering momentum.

Their recent on-pitch successes feature qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the mid-season window has brought further business:

  1. The acquisition of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since joining in 2023.

On Miyazawa’s new deal, a senior figure commented: “She has become a critical part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill enables her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”

Lundkvist, who has joined from a club in the American league, added: “You can feel how much the club have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
