A extensive search and rescue mission is presently in progress in the Caribbean Sea for two unlocated boats transporting humanitarian supplies en route from Mexico to Havana.

Military Search Missions Initiated

Authorities in Mexico has deployed navy personnel and reconnaissance aircraft to search for the two vessels, which were carrying no fewer than nine total sailors, as stated by a navy statement.

The vessels had been projected to arrive in the Cuban capital on Tuesday or Wednesday, but there has been no communication from them and zero verification of their arrival, the navy said.

The Situation of Humanitarian Support to the Island

The Caribbean nation has leaned on Mexico's over the past few weeks, as the island grapples with repeated national electricity failures.

"The crews and captains are seasoned mariners, and the two ships are equipped with proper navigational gear and signalling equipment," a representative involved in the effort commented.

The nine crew members are citizens of France, Poland, the United States, and Cuba. Mexican authorities said it has established contact with maritime rescue coordination centres from those nations along with their embassy officials.

"The group is working closely with the officials and are still optimistic in the crews' ability to safely arrive in Havana," the official further stated.

Earlier Humanitarian Delivery

Just days before, the government in Havana widely celebrated and greeted with fanfare a different ship that had delivered a significant amount of donated goods to the island.

That ship, called "a new Granma" in reference to the vessel in which Castro landed in Cuba to begin the Cuban Revolution in the 1950s, carried solar panels, pharmaceuticals, baby formula, cycles and food.

Broader Political Climate

Charity groups and individuals have been at the forefront of initiatives to deliver humanitarian aid to Cuba starting at the turn of the year, a period which saw a oil sanctions on the country began.

Global bodies have since warned of "dire" supply shortages, with in excess of fifty thousand surgical procedures postponed in Cuba amid energy rationing.

Diplomatic pressure have been ramped up in recent months, with remarks from different leaders underscoring the delicate nature of bilateral relations.

In response to recent statements, a high-ranking government figure declared that "the political system of Cuba is non-negotiable."

Indications suggest that early stages of negotiations commenced, although their ongoing development remains uncertain.

The Mexican navy stated it was pledged to using every available asset at its reach to find the sailboats and guarantee the well-being of the sailors.

As of now, there has been no official comment on the lost ships by the government in Havana.
